Coronavirus Outbreak Hygiene Information

Written by Emily Ashton | Mar 12, 2020 5:17:19 AM

As a hygiene solutions company, we want to help to spread some helpful information to help calm some of the worries people are having in this time.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has advised the public to do the following:

Wash your hands frequently and effectively.

Washing your hands frequently and correctly helps to kill viruses that may be on your hands, this helps to protect yourself and others. If you don't have soap you use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser.

The effective and correct way of washing your hands is to; wet your hands with clean, running water and apply soap. Lather your hands, including the backs, between your fingers, and under your nails and scrub for at least 20 seconds. Rinse. (20 seconds is the length of time it takes you to sing happy birthday).

Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

This is because you may have touched a surface that has had the virus on it and your hands can transfer the virus into your body through your eyes, nose and mouth.

Maintain social distancing.

The WHO suggests maintaining at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing, as coughs and sneezes spray small liquid droplets which may contain the virus. If you are too close the droplets may be breathed in.

Practice respiratory hygiene.

Following on from the previous point, if you are sneezing or coughing, cover your mouth by coughing or sneezing into either your elbow or a tissue. If you use a tissue, dispose of it immediately.

If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early.

Stay at home if you are unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the directions of your local health authority. Calling in advance will allow your health care provider to quickly direct you to the right health facility. This will also protect you and help prevent spread of viruses and other infections.

Practice empathy.

Be kind to everyone. We are all in this together. We share the same fears. There is no reason to act violently towards one another, show empathy to those who have been affected. Share facts from WHO or the government instead of biased publications, to help decrease stigma, anxieties and false news.
