World Hand Hygiene Day 2021

World Hand Hygiene Day 2021 Keeping hands clean is one of the most important steps we can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others.

World Hand Hygiene Day is celebrated every year on the 5th of May. Whilst its focus is on healthcare settings, in the current climate the overall message is universal: washing hands saves lives.

We've been very lucky here in Australia to avoid the worst of the pandemic, but with travel bubbles beginning to open up, World Hand Hygiene Day is a great time to remind ourselves of the importance of good hand hygiene.

The scientific evidence overwhelmingly demonstrates that appropriate hand hygiene is the single most effective action to stop the spread of infection and not just Covid-19.

The World Health Organisation is asking everyone to "make clean hands your habit, it protects all of us".

We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for doing your part over the last 12 months to keep your fellow Aussies safe. It is our mission to protect our local community and promote a safe and healthy work environment for everyone. If we can be of assistance in any way don't hesitate to get in touch.

Washing hands prevents illnesses and spread of infections to others Hand washing with soap removes germs from hands. This helps prevent infections because:

  • People frequently touch their eyes, nose, and mouth without even realizing it. Germs can get into the body through the eyes, nose and mouth and make us sick.
  • Germs from unwashed hands can get into foods and drinks while people prepare or consume them. Germs can multiply in some types of foods or drinks, under certain conditions, and make people sick.
  • Germs from unwashed hands can be transferred to other objects, like handrails, table tops, or toys, and then transferred to another person’s hands.
  • Removing germs through hand washing therefore helps prevent diarrhea and respiratory infections and may even help prevent skin and eye infections.

Stay Safe Australia!
